Why Are The Belts Not Tracking?
Below is a list of possible reasons why a belt is not tracking correctly.
- The belt tension is too low.
- Sanding pressure is too high or too low.
- Uneven sanding pressure.
- Contact roll or idler roll is worn.
- There is dust between the belt and the contact roll.
- Variation in workpiece thickness.
- The alignment between the contact roll and the idler roll is incorrect.
- The belt stretched due to improper work feeding.
- Platen is out of position.
- The damaged belt edge interfered with the tracking mechanism. Check for humidity imbalance. Also, try increasing belt tension.
- Belt tension overrides the tracking cylinder.
- The tracking mechanism is defective or out of adjustment.
- The electric eye photocell is defective or dusty. Clean regularly.
- Microswitch failure or damage
- Air jet-controlled tracking mechanisms may fail due to a drop in line pressure. Check jets for blockage.
- The contact roll is tapered.
- The belt was joined or cut incorrectly.
- The idler crown area is worn (narrow belts only).
