Grit Grading Systems

KLINGSPOR's coated abrasive products, except Alumina Zirconia and Ceramic Aluminum Oxide, are graded by grit size using the FEPA (Federation of European Producers of Abrasives) or P-grade scale. Some competitive products are graded according to the CAMI (Coated Abrasives Manufacturers Institute) scale. P-graded products are easily identified by a "P" preceding the grit size designation on the back of the material. The chart on this page compares both the scales and the relative sizes of abrasives in inches and microns.

FEPA

Federation of European Producers of Abrasives; The European scale for grading abrasives; Also known as P grade due to the grade of grits are preceded by a "P".

CAMI

Coated Abrasive Manufacturers Institute; The United States scale for the grading of abrasives.

Finishing Scale

This grit grading system places an "A" before the grit size designation.

Micron Scale

A system that measures abrasive particles by micron, or micrometer. (0.0025 of an inch or 1 millionth of a meter)
